Before you send your next email, use the following tips as a checklist to make sure you’re keeping your mobile users top of mind: Use large fonts. Make your emails easy on the eyes by sticking to font sizes of 14x or larger. Design for the size of the screen. Not all devices will adjust the screen to suit your reader. Save them the hassle of finger pinching to zoom by designing your emails for the standard sizes of popular devices. Have a strong call to action. Mobile doesn’t give you lots of real estate (or time), so tell people what you want them to do in the clearest and most concise way possible. Keep it clean and simple. In addition to a clear call to action, help your readers easily understand your value by sticking to an easy to read one column format…and leave out any complex CSS. Mix imagery with text. Images get blocked on mobile devices too, so make sure your content incorporates compelling text in case images are not automatically turned on. Make it easy on the thumbs. Design your emails so that most functions are easily accessible with one hand, and more specifically, are within reach of the thumb. And when applicable, be sure to use white space to your advantage. Don’t forget the plain text version. While plain text ensures compatibility for all mobile devices, don’t skimp on the design of your plain text emails.
