SendGrid is looking for a passionate, talented product designer to join our Labs team to help discover and validate new product concepts. SendGrid Labs is our innovation group dedicated to experimenting with next-generation technologies and communication channels. Labs presents a unique opportunity for individuals interested in exploring entrepreneurship without the risk. We operate with the pace and flexibility of a start-up, but have the support and resources of a much larger company.

As a Principal Product Designer in SendGrid Labs, you will have the opportunity to conduct countless customer interviews, contribute to our state-of-the-art style guide, and learn from other world-class designers across the organization. You’ll work in close collaboration with product management and engineering to see your wireframes come to life.

What You'll Do

  • Live by and champion our cultural values of Happy, Hungry, Honest, and Humble.
  • Participate in a rigorous, customer-informed product discovery process to identify new customer personas, understand and prioritize customer problems and rapidly validate solutions concepts.
  • Be an extremely vocal advocate for the SendGrid customer through all stages of design and development.
  • Be a structured problem-solver who can identify customer goals and ruthlessly prioritize the simplest solution to achieve those goals.
  • Identify hypotheses, develop test plans, moderate customer research sessions, and synthesize findings.
  • Create lo-fi flow diagrams and wireframes in collaboration with Product teammates to quickly prototype and test ideas.
  • Gather and analyze qualitative and quantitative data to make sure your designs are not only solving a true customer problem but also doing it really well.
  • Design detailed, pixel-perfect product user interfaces using Sketch.
  • Follow and advance SendGrid's design principles, brand, and style guide.
  • Work closely with our Engineers to make sure we are creating the highest quality experiences that can be implemented successfully.

About You

  • You have 5+ years working in UX role, designing for SaaS software products.
  • You have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, ideally in HCI, Human Factors, Information Management, Design, Psychology, or Anthropology.
  • You have worked in a fast-paced environment, such as a start-up or an agency.
  • You have owned the design of an app from end to end.
  • You are passionate about working with and deeply understanding customers; you are excited about proactively reaching out to customers, conducting interviews, and synthesizing feedback.
  • You are organized, self-structured, and live by the concept of “under promise, over deliver.” You meet deadlines to which you have committed.
  • You have a positive, can-do attitude.
  • You believe that perfect is the enemy of done and enjoy working with “driver” personalities.
  • You have a robust portfolio showcasing various stages of modern interactive design, ranging from sketches to low-fidelity wireframes to high-fidelity prototypes.
  • You thrive in a fast-paced, iterative environment and are flexible with iteration, ambiguity,  a fast clip, and a rapidly evolving plan. Labs operates much more closely to a start-up than an established company.
  • You can communicate your research findings and design concepts concisely and clearly to internal stakeholders.
  • You are open to traveling between Denver, Orange County and Redwood City to stay connected and collaborate with colleagues.
  • Understanding of CSS and front-end development with React is a bonus!

About SendGrid

Founded in 2009, SendGrid built its reputation solving a key pain point of delivering transactional emails that respond to customer behavior (purchase receipts, order confirmations, password resets, etc.). In 2015, SendGrid expanded the platform into marketing email use cases, enabling customers to have one platform for both transactional and marketing email. We deliver over 40 billion emails a month for customers like Airbnb, Spotify, and Yelp.
