Director of Tax

SendGrid is looking for a Director of Tax to join the Financial Operations team.  The growth and complexity of our business has allowed us to bring tax expertise in house. As the first tax expert on the team, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact as you’ll be responsible for all strategic, tactical and operational tax matters at SendGrid. The role will report directly to the VP, Corporate Controller and be based in our Denver office.

What You’ll Do

  • Prepare quarterly and annual tax provisions including ASC740-10 analysis and documentation, tax impact of FAS 123R, tax footnote disclosures and liaising with external advisors/auditors
  • Provide oversight of transfer pricing studies and long-term legal entity planning
  • Prepare key items for corporate income tax return and working with 3rd parties to review domestic and international returns and estimated payments
  • Ensure global compliance with all income, VAT/GST, sales and use, property, business and other tax filings and statutory audits
  • Provide assistance with acquisitions and dispositions including managing the due diligence process and 382 computations
  • Be responsible for staying current with legislative tax changes, ensuring that new rules are properly implemented, if applicable, and communicate such developments to management
  • Develop and execute tax audits and settlement strategies while recommending solutions that mitigate risk and cost
  • Manage US sales tax reporting, including sales tax compliance, taxability research and exemptions, audits, etc.
  • Perform research on various tax issues including US federal, state and international tax matters
  • Develop and maintain tax processes ensuring Sarbanes-Oxley 404 compliance
  • Act as a liaison between business, legal, finance and other departments to assist with identifying and resolving issues associated with transactions and projects
  • Analyze business activities and implement processes to track costs that qualify for R&D tax credits
  • Manage multiple service providers and budgets to conduct and execute complex studies and analysis for purposes of minimizing tax exposure

About You

  • Self-starter, with a high energy level, able to solve both process and technical problems and work effectively in a cross functional, team orientated environment
  • 10-14 years of experience in public accounting and/or industry, with extensive knowledge of domestic and international tax concepts and at least 5 years of management experience
  • BA/BS in Business/Accounting or equivalent, CPA and MS/MBA in Tax highly preferred
  • Advanced tax accounting knowledge
  • Understanding of domestic and international tax regulations, tax provision preparation, transfer pricing requirements and other non-income tax filing
  • Exceptional tax technical, accounting, analytical, and research skills
  • Strong accounting and analytical skills required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Ability to engage the business to tax issues and influence business to implement their initiatives in a way that minimizes the tax exposure
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to clearly and effectively present information and technical issues to executive management and board of directors in non-technical terms
  • Able to analyze complex problems and develop/implement logical and innovative solutions
  • Able to lead projects and work effectively with an inter-disciplinary team
