If you’ve ever searched for a job, there’s a strong chance you’ve used TheLadders. Beginning more than 11 years ago, TheLadders ventured into the job site market by providing job seekers with a place they could go to view positions that earned $100,000/year or more.

Today, TheLadders aims to help job seekers of all types find the best position possible for them. More than 7 million people are using their site to look for new positions from over 86,000 employers and recruiters. As a result, TheLadders send more than 170 million emails every month, informing people of new jobs. Sending this volume of email isn’t the easiest thing to do, which is where the need for SendGrid came in.

When TheLadders started, they chose to build their own email infrastructure. The problem with this, is growth. As they became more popular and started sending more email, they discovered that it was taking too much time and money to maintain their email in-house. Engineers working overtime, issues sending messages, and other problems led TheLadders to finding an email service provider (ESP).

Their first choice when it came to an ESP was to pick a large full-service marketing tool with all the features they could ask for. As it turned out, they ended up spending a lot of money on bells and whistles that they didn’t even use every month.

Their lead engineer then took over the search for a more robust, cost-effective, and scalable email solution. They chose SendGrid because we provide more technical documentation than any other ESP, showing their engineers exactly what can be accomplished with their SendGrid account. They chose to use:

  • Subusers and Dedicated IPs – By segmenting the types of email they send, they’re able to use SendGrid’s subuser accounts and dedicated IPs to ensure they have the highest deliverability and engagement rates possible.
  • Event Webhook – TheLadders uses SendGrid’s Event Webhook to retrieve engagement data every time email is sent. With the Event Webhook, they’re able to see which of their users open, click, or even unsubscribe.
  • Technical Account Management – As a high-volume sender, they also have an expert Technical Account Manager who monitors their sending and deliverability to help ensure that their emails are reaching recipient inboxes.

In addition to this, SendGrid provided the flexibility and reliability they needed to send customized emails to their users whenever they want. As a result, Deepa Miglani, VP of marketing for TheLadders told Direct Marketing News:

“Our lives have changed because we know that the emails are getting delivered on time. We’re not experiencing blockages at the ISPs because we’ve changed the type of content in the email or [because] we launched a new sort of email. Not having those issues that we were having previously is the one fundamental change that has happened with our migration of SendGrid.”
