After a Geeks on a Plane adventure through South America, we just had to revisit Mexico’s emerging startup community. Especially after Claudio recommended we come check out Startup Weekend Puebla. I’m glad we did! Not only was the Startup Weekend a big success, I was able to check out the local startup/tech scene within the amazing historic backdrop of Puebla’s culturally rich city.

Big thanks to Santiago López V., Jorge Carvajal and Cristian for their hospitality while I visited. First, I was treated to a tour of Angel Ventures Mexico and Endeavor Puebla, followed by a tour of the future site of Mexico’s largest co-working space. I can’t wait to check out the finished product. Then Christian gave me the obligitory tourist viewpoint into the city. Puebla is rich with history and culture, plus they have not one, but two volcanoes! Did I mention the tacos?

Pre-Startup Weekend, I was treated to a meal worthy of a Startup Weekend with the excellent company of co-organizers Gustavo, Santiago Zavala, Claudio and Santiago López V.

History was made the first day of the Startup Weekend with an outdoor pitching session, with a total of 20 pitches. While I only understood a fraction of what was said, one thing was clear, this community had passion! As per usual, in 54 short hours, new companies were born. There were a total of 12 final presentations! I did not envy the judges on this one. After some serious deliberations, the final winner was selected, Mil y un Vestidos.

SendGrid awarded the winners a well deserved iPod Touch. Take a moment to check out all the photos from the event and feel free to tag and comment. I hear wispers of the next Startup Weekend in Mexico coming up in Guadalajara. I’m sure it will be just as awesome.
