Hollywood Hack Day Recap Elmer Thomas June 22, 2012 Events // SUMMARIES ?> On June 8th, I headed out to the city of fame and fortune – Hollywood, California. But not to schmooze with the stars, instead I spent the weekend watching some amazing hacks created by over 90 developers and designers. Once again, the event started with schwag o’plenty, but as usual, the goodies did not last very long. Later, as things got heated, I spotted many with our SendGrid sweat bands, which are designed especially for that purpose. After all, sending all that email can get real intense, real fast. Dwolla’s Eric Schonefeld was in attendance, representing to the fullest, though he only had size small shirts. But never fear, Chris powered up anyway: The food was perfect for two days of hacking. There was Chipotle, In N’ Out, Chick-Fil-A, Zico coconut water, Red Bull and my personal favorite, Big Mama’s & Papa’s Pizzeria. Our own Kien Pham particpated and created CelePedia along with Eva Zheng. And even though things got tough, in the end they powered through and left the audience with a great demo. The winning hack was Typing Karaoke, a typing game that makes it fun to practice your typing skills. Try it out for yourself. There were several hacks that utilized SendGrid APIs in various ways: Social Jukebox, DogQuest, SimpleCasting, Mixxy and It’s On. The best SendGrid hack went to Social Jukebox. To find a list of all the winners, press coverage and more photos, visit the official Hollywood Hack Day website. All of the hacks are listed at Hacker League.
