We are excited that October is finally upon us as we are again participating in this year’s Hacktoberfest! If you’re not familiar with Hacktoberfest, read up on the event here. To celebrate the month and say “thank you” to our contributors, we are giving out special edition swag packs to every contributor after their first accepted pull request to a SendGrid repo during October 2017.

The pack will include a Hacktoberfest t-shirt, Hacktoberfest sticker, and a SendGrid Hacker Pin. Contributors just have to fill out this form once their pull request is accepted.

How to contribute

Want to contribute to SendGrid’s open source community? Simply search Github for a list of SendGrid’s open projects for something to work on. This year, we have posted our entire backlog and wishlist to our open source repos to ensure there are plenty of interesting items.

If you live in the Denver area, join us at our Denver office October 5th, 2017 from 5-8pm for an evening of food, friendly faces, and open source collaboration. This meetup is for all skill levels and interests! There are a wide range of open source repos participating in many different types of code languages, and there are several documentation repos too!

Where:
SendGrid
1801 California St.
Suite 500
Denver, CO 80202

From the lobby of the 1801 California St. building, take the elevators to the 5th floor.

When:
Thursday October 5
5pm-8pm – drop in anytime

New to GitHub? Never fear! No previous experience with GitHub is needed–we are more than happy to help you get started.  Just drop by anytime between 5 and 8 pm, help yourself to food, and we will get up and hacking!

Our repos are chatty!

SendGrid works closely with our community to find solutions and build new features. These communications can lead to a lot of notification emails and this month will be no exception.

If you would like to avoid the Github notifications and updates that come from watching a repo, please sign up to receive only release notes through the library-specific newsletter of your choice. You will be sent release notifications, rather than every single comment, issue, and PR that happens!

Thank you

Our customers and our contributors are absolutely amazing. We hope that everyone who wants to participate in Hacktoberfest with us can find something within their skillset that can be done. If not, just create an issue and let us know—we will find something and do what we can to help!

We are committed to making sure our contributors feel that their voice is heard and that their contributions matter to us, even if we don’t accept the contribution. We learn something new every day as a result of the connections we make with our contributors and it’s hard to articulate how grateful we are as a Developer Experience team for the opportunity to work with such amazing people.

Please expect to receive constructive replies, questions, and suggestions from us and our community members!

If you are looking for non-SendGrid issues to close, check out the Github search for `label:Hacktoberfest` search or go to the official Hacktoberfest page for ideas, issues, and information.

In addition to the swag we are offering for contributions to our repos, if you submit 4 or more total Pull Requests during Hacktoberfest, DigitalOcean and Github will send you one of their official Hacktoberfest swag packs.

Get out there and contribute! Also, stay tuned throughout the month of October for updates on the event and our progress.

Happy Hacktoberfest and happy hacking!
