Boulder’s SendGrid is the latest Colorado-based tech company from outside of Denver that’s opening offices in Lower Downtown. It leased space for 20 employees — with room for 105 — at 1451 Larimer St., saying it gives the company’s Denver-area employees better commute options. It’s also meant to help the company draw from Denver-area tech talent, which it wants because it’s hiring steadily to fill new jobs.

Email-management startup SendGrid has partnered with leading Platform-as-a-Service providers including Heroku, Engine Yard, and CloudBees, the company announced today. SendGrid helps more than 60,000 web application companies and developers send all kinds of emails to their customers, including shipping notifications, sign-up confirmations, and even notes to let you know you’ve earned a new “badge” on Foursquare. SendGrid customers include Pinterest, Airbnb, Twilio, Spotify, and Pandora.

Some may think the end is nigh for email — with services like Facebook coming to replace it as a one-stop communications hub for consumers — but going by the numbers out today from SendGrid, the email delivery company, thoughts like that may be a bit premature.

While the number of ways in which businesses are communicating with their customers is steadily climbing, email still remains the preferred tool for customer interaction. Between 2010 and 2011, the volume of emails sent to customers grew by 14.9%.

SendGrid was founded in 2009, and had rapid success. The Boulder startup, which sends e-mails on behalf of companies such as FourSquare, announced in January that it raised $21 million in funding and entered into a partnership with Microsoft, spokeswoman Carly Brantz said.

The Boulder, Colo.-based company sends 2.6 billion personalized emails per month to users of services like Pinterest, Airbnb and Path — with 26 billion total emails sent over the past two-and-a-half years.

E-mail infrastructure startup SendGrid has raised $21 million in its second round of funding and created a partnership with Microsoft’s Windows Azure platform to convince more enterprises to use its e-mail delivery solutions, the company announced today.
