Using SendGrid’s Inbound Parse API to Power an iOS Application on Windows Azure

azure-logoSendGrid is excited to participate in Microsoft’s //build/ Conference in San Francisco at the Moscone Center, June 26 – 28.  As one of the first ten companies selected by Microsoft for inclusion in its Windows Azure Store, we are pleased to have the opportunity to support Microsoft’s Windows Azure Mobile Services general availability and showcase a new sample app as a part of the Partner Expo.

The Windows Azure cloud platform is widely used to build and deliver innovative web applications to customers. Many of these applications rely on transactional email to confirm registrations, process order purchases or send friend or follower requests.  The Windows Azure Store allows any developer building web applications on Windows Azure to quickly and seamlessly add a range of third-party technologies and functionality to their applications.

By using SendGrid as part of the Windows Azure Store, developers can avoid the complexity of maintaining a proprietary transactional email solution and the cost of assigning developer resources to manage it.  And as a Windows Azure customer, you can get started with 25,000 free SendGrid emails per month.

As part of today’s Windows Azure Mobile Services general availability announcement, we wanted to share how we built an iOS application with a backend hosted in Windows Azure.  This tutorial helps you take advantage of both SendGrid and the data storage, authentication and push notification support available through Windows Azure Mobile Services. We’ll create a basic iPhone app that lets a user enter a song into a request queue. Along the way you’ll learn how to use SendGrid’s Inbound Parse API and tackle the task of sending emails through iOS using Windows Azure as a backend.

To get started, visit our documentation and walk through the tutorial. You’ll have the information you need to create your own Windows Azure Mobile Services powered website and iOS native application.

Learn more by visiting SendGrid at our booth AS6 in the Partner Expo at the Microsoft //build/ conference to get an overview of our sample app and participate in our interactive demo.  We look forward to seeing you there!
