Of Course There’s a Marketing Email API

API, checkEarlier this week we announced the Marketing Email Service, something SendGrid customers requested. It’s now easy for anyone to send messages to a list of users without writing code. We know a lot of you are developers, which means you enjoy coding. Since every service needs a programming interface, we also have the Marketing Email API to perform many of the tasks available in the web interface. In fact, our own web interface uses the same API.

One obvious way to use the new API is to maintain your subscriber list. If your users register for accounts on your website, you might offer an opportunity to opt in to receive updates. Developers can use the API to maintain those lists with our API, then even non-coders can send messages using the Marketing Email Service. If a user goes to their settings page and un-checks the box, use our API to instantly unsubscribe the user from that type of message.

In addition to maintaining lists, the API lets developers control all aspects of individual marketing emails. You can create new drafts, delete old ones, edit the recipients and send them out. You can even use the API to A/B test your copy or design.

It’s now common for a company to build an app on top of an API. It’s much rarer to see that underlying API made available to developers. And we think that’s important. So, build your own interface on top of the Marketing Email API, or just integrate part of it into your workflow.
