The following is a guest post from our UI Designer, Josh Tilton.
We recently released our new and improved Statistics section to give you better insight into what is happening with your emails. However, this ended up being a bit of a challenge to make sure that it was easy to clearly view all the multiple data points you have when it comes to email delivery. For data visualization, the color choices are paramount.
We started off with a very “soft” palate that used many different shades of green and yellow. We quickly saw how troublesome this was in various charting implementations.
So, we created a color system that would allow you to see and track a specific data point even in the most chaotic of display:
After we completed work for the charts, we approached the color coding of the 189 countries that we track. This proved to be a big challenge in creating colors that wouldn’t be repeated. To help solve this problem, I used this tool: http://color.hailpixel.com. It was wonderful to create “grids” of color. Go play with it, it’s a lot of fun!
Here is a view of the chart style guide that was put together for this project!
We hope that our new stats section helps and the new color choices improve your experience! If there is any feedback, please don’t hesitate to get in touch or leave us a comment!
